Help Students like Tyler Turn Their Career Dreams into Reality

“We can’t do it all on our own…”

Tyler always enjoyed science and thought about it as a career path he might pursue one day. But in his freshmen year at San Pedro High School, Tyler discovered his true career calling. After viewing videos about the fashion industry, he knew he wanted to one day become an entrepreneur, with a business selling men’s fashion and personal care products.

To get experience, he soon began his own side business selling sneakers. “It was a way to dip my toes into a sales career,” Tyler said. “I discovered I really love selling.”

He was eager to prepare for life after high school, but quickly realized that to pursue an entrepreneurial career path, he needed tools and guidance that his high school curriculum was not able to offer. That’s when he learned that EXP’s career education program team was there to help.

This fall, Tyler entered his junior year at San Pedro High School and joined the EXP Internship Program. He is now actively engaged in the program’s career-readiness workshops.

“What EXP is doing is incredible,” said Tyler. “I can now see what my life might look like after high school. They give students the tools to step out of high school prepared with a game plan, internship experience, and knowledge of how to build a network.

“They teach us practical things like how to write a resume, so we’re prepared to look for jobs. That’s not something we learn in class. I love that they are teaching us this. You can’t do it all on your own.”

Your support of EXP today helps more high school students, like Tyler, to turn their career dreams into reality.

Our EXP program team helps prepare students for future academic and career success. We help them chart their career path. We provide personal guidance, soft skills training, as well as career exposure through summer internships and opportunities to meet and learn from people who work in the professions that interest them.

“It’s important to keep supporting EXP so that other students can get the same opportunities that [I and other students] received – to build a network and to learn things we otherwise were not going to learn,” said Tyler.
