LOOK AT HOW FAR WE'VE COME!
As we look forward to the November 7 event, we also take a look back at the extraordinary 14-year history of GPS Your Future®.
Led by the late Julia Nagano of the Port of Los Angeles, the inaugural event took place in 2010 at Los Angeles Harbor College. Students from 3 high schools participated with 24 organizations in the expo hall and a dozen speakers in the breakout sessions.
Thanks to our sponsors' support and our educator partners' backing, we have expanded the event to accommodate more students and pathways that we have today. Read the full story here.
Stay tuned for more stories from our 25th anniversary celebration!

Alumni Spotlight: Eros Monzones ’22
Eros Monzones ‘22
Student at CSU Long Beach and Student Worker at Port of Los Angeles
Carson High School: ESET - Environmental Science Engineering and Technology Pathway
It really takes just one opportunity to change someone’s life trajectory! For Eros, that opportunity was attending the 2019 GPS Your Future® at Long Beach City College as a sophomore. The career discovery day gave him a newfound drive and focus to “work harder and smarter” in pursuing his college and career goals. (Read about Eros’ experience here.)
Eros went on to take full advantage of all the EXP programs available at Carson High School: Industry Coaching, the Young Fellows Program, and the Internship Program. His EXP internship was with the Port of Los Angeles Financial Planning & Analysis Division, which opened his eyes to possible careers in business administration. He followed that inspiration to college as a Business Administration and Management major at California State University, Long Beach.
Recently, Eros returned to the Port of Los Angeles as a student worker in the Community Relations Department, working alongside Christine Pina ‘05, whom we featured last month!
“I am incredibly grateful for everything the EXP program has done for me and other aspiring students,” said Eros. “I often share that I wouldn’t be at the Port without the support, guidance, and education provided by EXP. Your coaching and mentorship have been invaluable, and I will always be a proud member of the EXP alumni community.”
