Words Matter
Words matter. The words of our leaders have amplified effect. They have the power to inspire others to action, as well as corrode community confidence.
The recent news of racist comments made by our Los Angeles City Councilmembers during a private meeting was appalling. The blatant political cynicism and sense of entitlement that these words carry made the situation even more disheartening.
There is no place for racism and bias in our community, whether spoken at the podium or whispered among friends. All Angelenos, and especially our youth, deserve better. Young people look to us adults for guidance on how to view themselves and how to treat others. Through our words and our actions, we show them what is right and wrong.
EXP stands in solidarity with our students, who deserve leaders who will recognize the same wisdom that our youth already understand, that there is greater strength in unity than in division.
Our vision is for every student to have equal access to education, experiences, and career opportunities, helping them reach their full potential. In partnership with educators and industry, we remain committed to reducing racial and gender disparities across the justice continuum affecting our youth and the communities we serve.
